Colorado River Flotilla

July 18th 2009

After I left the Lake Mead Kaykking meetup, I drove back to Fiesta Henderson to join the Marine second wave.
Our plan was camp at Arizona Hot Springs the night before we doing Flotilla at colorado River. We drove down to the Willow Beach and took a boat trip to the Arizona Hot Springs. We carried our gear plus many gears of those who hike down the Arizona Hot Springs trail on Sunday morning.

There were 9 of us camped at Arizona Hot Springs. We went to hot springs at night and spend good time.
Since it was warm, I didn't bring my tent. I slept on the sleeping bag.
On the Sunday morning, I paddled up the Colorado River for one mile. Since Hoover Dam shut down the generator at night, there were no current at that time and very easy to go up stream.

When the Army (who hiked down the Arizona Hot Springs on Sunday morning) got to the river, they had hard time to get our camp site. Maybe I should bring their float to the beach that located 200 yard from camp site. So, our group didn't spread out in several small groups.

We enjoyed for first few mile until the strong head wind hit us. Since current was not strong enough to curry us down in the strong head wind, we had to paddle. But, many of us gave up and just float down. I thought they never make it in the daylight, so tried to tow them down the river, but it was very hard work.
