Rock Climbing at Calico Basin

November 14th 2009

I was going to snow hike at Bryce Canyon on this weekend. But, the trip had canceled due to weather. The weather forcast said '-10 degree at night'
I had expected cold weather, but -10 degree was unacceptable. I could servive even 0 degree with my 15 degree sleeping bag with extra blanket plus double sleeping pad.... But, not -10 degree !!
Anyway, I had to find 'Plan B', but it was easy. Rock Climbing meetup posted 'beginner rock climbing at Calico Basin' on Saturday. Fortunately, there were some open spots, so I have decided to go. The assistant organizer was 'Dan' and I have hiked with him for several times. He is very good hiker also very experienced Rock Climber.
We met at Calico Basin and hiked up to 'Cut Your Teeth Crag'. Dan showed us how to set the anchor and rope.
Its 5.6 - 5.7 climbing. I tried 5.7 for 4 times.
I was bit nervous when started climbing, but I found it is very safe.
I had really enjoyed climbing. Dan and Christine did a great job and took care of us very well.
We learned lots of things that we need to know.
