Fretcher Peak Snowshoeing Hike

December 13th 2009

Paul Kuroda posted snowshoeing on Facebook. He is very experienced snowshoe hiker. So, I really wanted to learn snowshoeing from him.
7 of us met early in the morning and went Northloop Trailhead. Kyle Canyon Rd. and Deer Creek Rd. was already cleared and snow free. But, parking lot was covered with 8 inch snow.
We don't see any foot print on the trail. Mark Beauchamp lead us on fresh snow. Usually, trail breaker is a hard work. He did great job.
After the trail is getting steeper, I went in front and broke the trail. I have hiked North Loop trail many times, so I knew the current location and where should I heading to.
After the 3 hours of battle, we made it to the Fletcher Peak. It was faster than expected.
We had expected high wind, but there was no wind or cloud. It was beautiful day. The temperature at the peak was 41 F.
I put 3 layers on the top, but I felt hot on the way up.
When we descent from the peak, I switched the snowshoe to mini ski and slided down. I haven't been to ski for several years, and never tried mini ski, so I fell down many times. Actually, it was bit scary sliding down on steep hill side with lots of trees.
I slided down separately from the group. At one point, I coudn't find them. So, I had waited them for long time, but I had decided go down by myself.
At near the trail head, Paul and John appeared in front looking for me!! They had already descended in front of me. They were amazingly fast !
