Griffith Peak Snowshoeing

December 20th 2009

After we did snowshoeing at Fletcher Peak last weekend, Paul, Ron, Jorge and I decided to go snowshoing at Griffith Peak.
We had expected this hike is way harder than Fletcher Peak, so we started hiking early in the morning.
South Loop Trail Head (Cathedral Rock Parking) area were blocked with fence and nobody can park/hike. So, we started hiking way back that makes us another 20 minutes hike to get to the trailhead.
Even, trailhead was closed, we found many foot print on the trail. We followed it until the Overlook point.
Then we took 'OLD South Loop trail' route. Its steep ridge line to the Suddle. We had to break the trail from here.
The snow were deeper and softer than North Loop trail. It was very hard work to break the trail. Fortunately temperature was not so cold (low 40's) and no wind.
Once we got on the Saddle, strong wind blews. Sky was covered with heavy clouds. We had to wear all the layers we got.
After 20 minutes spent at the peak, we hiked down back to the car in 2 hours. We slided down at many places.
