Boyscout Canyon

January 3rd 2010

Jeff started the topic on the meetup message board about Boyscout Canyon. And Debbie replyed it with her previous hike pics. There were couple of big exposure pics, and it looked bit scary, but also looked Fun.
I wanted to explore this canyon, but unfortunately I don't have any high clearance vhicle to get to the trailhead.
But, one day Debbie made a small group for this hike and let me join. And I was really glad to join this group.

On Sunday morning, we met at Boulder City and drive down to the trailhead. We had to drive on the sandy wash for a while. I thought I don't want to come here withoug any high clearance 4WD vhicle.

The first part of the hike was super easy, but once we reached at top of the ridge, the hike turned into super scramble hike.
Descending from the top of ridge was much scary than I expected. Class 4 down scramble over 50 ft exposure.
It was one of the most scary down scramble I have ever done. (it was as same scary as my first down scramble at Devil's Thumb at Mt.Charleston)
We took a look at 200 ft dry fall on the way down to the Colorado River. In the Canyon. there were 3 rope sections. It was bit harder than Gold Strike HS, but nothing serious. Only the problem was some rock was wet and slick.
On the way back, we spent half hour at hot spring. It was a big prize after 4 days of snowshoeing, night hiking, ice canyoneering and super exposure hike.
