Kraft Mtn. North Face - Ron Kirk's Search and Rescue

January 25th 2012

This was a Search mission of lost hiker 'Ron Kirk' who was an avid trail runner/hash runner/climber.
When I went to Kraft Mtn. trailhead, I saw his Jeep was still there. Since his car was parked on Kraft Mtn. trailhead, I had expected that he went to North/East side of trailhead.
I heard air search couldn't find him, so he must be trapped in deep slot in between the boulder. So, where is the most possibilty???
One idea came up quickly....North Face of Kraft Mtn.
Kraft Mtn. is not hard for climbing, but descending is the different story. Especialy on the North side.
This route is getting complicated and getting harder when it get close to the ground. Lots of route cliffed out and only the descent route is class 4-5 slot for over 50 ft.
Its very hard to expect his route from the bottom. So, I had decided to scramble up the same route I took about month ago.
Once I climbed up class 3 route, I started searching the 'possible' route.
Originaly, I was going to do this by myself, cuz not many hikers can't handle class 4 descent. Its easy for me to do this by myself.
But, when I left the group, Rachael Martines followed me. I wonder if she can handle class 4. I knew she is a good hiker, but didn't hike with her for long time.
Gladly, she managed all the technichal moves without any trouble.
We scrambled down to the wash without any injury, but unfortunately, we couldn't find any sign of lost hiker.
After we descent down to the wash, we started searching the Gray Cap side of hill. But, we couldn't find anything.
