La Madre Peak - Ron Kirk's Search and Rescue

February 3rd 2012

When I searched the Damsel Peak last week, I also checked the snow condition to the La Madre Peak. There was a little bit of snow on the route, but I was sure its gonna melt in 1 week. And I was right.
This was my 4th Search for Ron Kirk. I went solo on this search. My purpose was just checking the La Madre Peak summit log. Its a really long shot, but I was thinking that if he started hiking from Kyle Canyon side and went over the La Madre and end up the Calico Basin. In this case, its really possible.
Since Ash Canyon was already searched, I started this hike from Sandstone Quarry in Red Rock. I kept fast pace and try not to stop as much as possible. Once I scrambled up on the La Madre Ridge line, I saw few patch of snow. But, it was not an issue. And I made it to the peak in 2.5 hours.
Unfortunately, there was not his name on the signing log at La Madre Peak.
I took few close up pics of Brownstone basin from the peak then scrambled down to the car in 2 hours.
