B-52G Stratofortress Crash Site

September 30th 2012

Summery :

The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress is a long-range strategic bomber for US Air Force.

This B-52G (#58-06161) was assigned to the 19th Bomb Wing, Robins AFB, Georgia.
On April 11th 1983, this B-52G departed Robbing AFB for training activity, which was part of an advanced training excercise "Red Flag" hosted at Nellis AFB.
On the way to Nellis Range, it reported various navigation and flight control avionics problems, but mission continued to the low level entry point.
When it traversing South Western Utah, there was variable weather conditions which included cloud obscureed mountain ridges and peaks.
At 12:20PM, the aircraft impacted on the side of the mountain about 450 ft below the ridge line.
The aircraft was completely destroyed on impact.
All 7 crews on board were killed.

----------------------------------------------

Aircraft hit the side of the mountain near the top of the ridge line.
While many wrecks were spreading and falling on the steep hillside, some wrecks flew over the ridgeline and fell on the other side.
Since it is a large aircraft and very steep terrain, many wrecks are still there even after military cleaned up.
I could find a few engine parts at the bottom of canyon/ravine.
