Kilauea Volcano

August 10-11th 2013

After I landed on Hilo Airport at Big Island, I rented the Jeep at Airport.
Then I started to look for the Butan/Propane gas canister for my cooking stove. I went to Wal-Mart, Sports Authority, Sears and Home Depot, but they didn't have it. Thus, I had to buy solid fuel instead. Seems like they don't have it in Hawaii.
I drove up to the Kilauea Volcano after the dinner. It was at night but a few people were visiting at the crater rim view site.
The pit hole in the crater grows dark red and the smoke and the fog over the hole were reflecting the lights.

After midnight, I started hiking down the crater rim. I walk around the rim for a while until I could find some spot I could scramble down, then walked across the lava field to get closed to the pit hole.
Once I came about half way from the parking lot, there was another cliff that I couldn't even see the bottom. So, I gave up to get close and started taking a pics from there.
After half hour of watching, I went back to the car. I tried to short cut the cliff, but the last 20 feet was too steep/loose and I had to take another way.
I stayed the night in the car at the Volcano rim parking lot, but around 5:50AM, the car started shaking. I thought it was a very strong wind, but later I found that was an Earth quake. It was M4.9 and the largest earth quake in the region since 2000 What a luck !!.
