Summery :

The Douglas A-4M is the US Marine version of A-4 Skyhawk lightweight attack aircraft with improved avionics and more powerful engine, enlarged cockpit, IFF system. This USMC A-4M (#160038) was belonged to VMA-311 and stationed MCAS El Toro, California.
On May 10, 1982, this A-4M Skyhawk (#160038) piloted by Maj. R. L. Barton crashed on a lava flow near the Twentynine Palms Marine Base after suffering from an engine failure during recovery from strafe run. The pilot ejected after unsuccessful attempts to regain power.
