Summery :

The North American F-100D is upgraded version of F-100 Super Sabre single-seater supersonic jet fighter aircraft for USAF.

This F-100D #56-3032 were assigned to the 4536 Fighter Weapons Squadron, Nellis AFB, Nevada.

On 3 April 1968, the pilot Major K E Phillips was scheduled to fly his first mission in the Fighter Weapons School.
The mission scheduled was a two-ship flight characteristics mission.
After the pilot completed three rudder rolls and no problems were encountered.
He then positioned his aircraft to perform the low-speed aileron roll and completed one and one-half rolls and then initiated recovery.
The ailerons were neutralized and the right rudder was applied to stop the roll. however, the aircraft continued to roll to an inverted position and yawed to the left.
He ejected and landed safely about 200 yards from the aircraft which crashed on the rocky hillside and exploded on impact.
Right after the accident, the para-rescue jumped off the nearby C-130 which was supporting the X-15 flight test at Delamar, and stayed with the pilot until the rescue helicopter from Nellis AFB picked them up.

The primary cause was the pilot factor - in that the pilot lost control during a near maximum performance maneuver and was unable to recover.
He was permitted to enter course with a total of 13 hours in the F-100 in the 6 months preceding the accident.

Crash site has ton's of wrecks.
The aircraft impacted near the hill top and spread many front section parts over the hill while aft section of the aircraft fell down the hill side.
